Jorge Fontan – Architect
Jorge Fontan is an architect and owner of New York based architecture firm Fontan Architecture. He is a member of The American Institute of Architects.
Education and Background
Architectural Education
Jorge Fontan has three degrees in the study of architecture. He has a Master’s degree from Columbia University in Advanced Architectural Design, as well as a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science from The City University Of New York. Jorge also studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura del Vallés in Spain.
Before Fontan Architecture
Jorge Fontan started working in construction with his father who was a contractor as a teenager. He quickly realized his passion for architecture and subsequently enrolled in architecture school at the City University of New York where he would receive two Bachelor Degrees in Architecture. After completing his undergraduate education, he went directly to a graduate program at Columbia University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Advanced Architectural Design.
While in architecture school Jorge interned for small architecture firms, such as LevenBetts, BermanHorn, and System Architects. After completing his studies, he worked for large and medium-sized architecture firms including Kondylis, RKT&B, and Robert A.M. Stern Architects. Jorge gained professional experience in a variety of project types including single family homes, multifamily residential buildings, education, institutional, and commercial buildings of all sizes.
Jorge earned practical experience in construction and design. He holds a great appreciation for craftsmen and construction contractors. He believes architects need to start with building well and with sustainability. Great design and great construction have to go hand in hand.
