There are many different materials you can use for a backsplash but none are to be compared with full stone slabs such as marble.
Using a Marble Slab Backsplash
You can use a marble slab as a backsplash which is a very high-end look. Installing a full slab reduces the seams and grout lines that you would see in a tile backsplash. Marble slab backsplashes are more expensive but also have an unmatched elegance for a luxury design.
The kitchen backsplash is a critical part of the kitchen design. The backsplash serves a functional purpose to be a durable material in a kitchen where cooking can be a messy process, but this doesn’t mean the backsplash has to look utilitarian. A marble slab can elevate a kitchen and become a design statement.
I am Jorge Fontan, an architect in New York and owner of Fontan Architecture, an NYC-based architecture firm. At our office we work on various project types include luxury residential interiors. In the post we will be explaining why we like to use marble slabs for a kitchen backsplash in our high-end residential projects.
Advantage of a Marble Slab Backsplash
There are two big advantages to using a marble slab for a backsplash. Marble is a beautiful material when compared to so many other options. Marble has a richness that you just won’t see in other options. An additional advantage is that using large slabs will help eliminate or reduce the joints and grout lines in the backsplash.
A marble slab backsplash can be seamless if one slab can cover the whole area. If not you will need to have some seams when using multiple slabs but there will be very few of them compared to a tile backsplash.
Marble Slabs are High-End
A marble slab is a luxury kitchen design detail. You should expect a significant increase in price using marble slabs compared to a typical kitchen backsplash. The material itself is more expensive but the installation is also more complicated. This type of work should be performed by high quality artisans who really know what they are doing.
Marble Kitchen Backsplash
There is no comparison in the aesthetic of a marble backsplash for your kitchen. This will most certainly come at a higher cost than other options but for a luxury kitchen design it will be a great choice. Natural stones are elegant and timeless when compared to other options.
