UES Apartment Combination

2,650 Sq Ft Apartment Combination and Gut Renovation

Upper East Side, Manhattan, NYC

This is a 2,650 square foot apartment in Yorkville on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NYC. The apartment was originally two smaller apartments that we combined into one.

Our client originally owned one apartment and then the neighbor put their apartment up for sale. He purchased the adjacent apartment and hired us to combing and gut renovate the two. One of the most important things to consider when combining apartments is to make sure it feels like one cohesive apartment. You do not want it to feel thrown together or feel like it was two apartments that were combined. One should assume it was always designed as one apartment.

In designing this apartment we opened up the living room and kitchen on both sides to create a combined space with living room, family and open kitchen in the middle. This brings in light, makes the space feel bigger, and allows visual connection from the kitchen to all communal spaces in the home.

The apartment is almost entirely black, white, and gray with a few exceptions such as one of the showers has a wood look porcelain tile. The color pallette is very simple, clean, and modern.

We have a blog post you can see on How to Combine Apartments in NYC if you want to learn more about the subject.
